On December 12, at the Monash Alexandra Theatre, 45 young performers from Jiayuan Charity delivered two extraordinary concerts, showcasing their exceptional musical talent and marking the successful conclusion of the 2024 Jiayuan Charity Concert. Themed “Love and Music,” this annual event not only highlighted the children’s remarkable musical abilities but also brought much-needed attention and support to children affected by domestic violence.

Music with a Message of Love, Actions Reflecting Responsibility

As Victoria’s first youth-led charity, Jiayuan Charity has undertaken numerous philanthropic initiatives this year, including October’s Melbourne Marathon Charity Run and November’s inaugural charity gala dinner in partnership with the Hubei Chamber of Commerce. These efforts, supported by a wide cross-section of the community, have laid the groundwork for changing the lives of more children in need.
At the concert, Krystal Bassett from Anchor Community Care delivered an emotional speech, moved by the children’s performances and sincerity. She remarked: “This concert not only provided practical support but also raised awareness about the challenges faced by children affected by domestic violence.”
Professor Yangguosheng Chen, Vice President of the National Council of Women (Victoria), praised the concert, stating, “The children’s performances were highly professional, with challenging pieces performed so beautifully that they left a lasting impression.”

Professional Performances That Touched Hearts

From solo and ensemble pieces to four-hand piano duets, performers ranging from 7 to 16 years old demonstrated extraordinary maturity and technical skill beyond their years, captivating the audience at every turn.

President Ji, moved to tears during a duet by two young girls, shared: “The familiar melody touched my heart, but what moved me even more was the impeccable harmony and coordination between such young performers.” He and Pam, Vice President of the National Council of Women (Victoria), stood to applaud the duet in recognition of their exceptional teamwork.

A piano teacher in the audience observed, “These children have not only achieved impressive technical proficiency but also conveyed deep emotions and ideas through their music. The passion they bring, especially knowing this is for charity, is truly inspiring.”

Enthusiastic Audience Reactions

The concert left a profound impact on the audience. One mother shared, “My child wasn’t interested in piano before, but tonight, she was deeply inspired by the performers. She told me, ‘If kids my age can play this well, I want to be like them!’” Another audience member commented, “These children showed me the boundless power of music. Their talent is remarkable, but even more impressive is how they used music to convey love and hope. This was a performance with profound meaning.” Some parents noted that their children, who had considered giving up piano, decided to continue learning after watching the concert, aspiring to one day stand on such a meaningful stage.

Growth Through Music, The Power of Giving

Beyond their musical achievements, the children demonstrated exceptional discipline, teamwork, and cooperation throughout the day’s events. One elder from the Chinese community remarked, “These children not only represent the future but are already making a difference today. They’ve shown us that music truly has the power to heal.”

Continuing the Journey of Love

While this year’s concert has come to a close, Jiayuan Charity’s mission of compassion continues. As the host remarked, “Plans for next year’s charity journey are already underway, and we look forward to having you with us again!”

With music as their bridge and love as their motivation, the children of Jiayuan have brought warmth and hope to those in need through their dedication and passion. Their efforts have not only changed the lives of those they’ve helped but have also inspired others to join the cause, working together to make the world a better place. May love and music continue to warm the world. See you next year!
